These are some of the highlights of my time with Hillside Medical Group and my time at KU School of Medicine

My position with Hillside Medical Group progressed over time; starting from consulting on minor projects to full-time employment to a hiatus for medical training and a return as a scribe and defacto Office Manager/Lab Manager. The consistent factor over this period of time was my work with the electronic health records application and IT support I provided for the office.

Business Rebrand

In 2010, The Osteopathic Clinic contracted me to rebrand the business so they could attract a new physician that may not have been a Doctor of Osteopathy. I directed the process for developing a new brand identity for the office so that it avoided any of the standard local terms allowing it to stand out from the rest of the medical offices in the area while being easily identified.

Electronic Medical Records

I was again contracted to convert the office to electronic records. Working with a tech firm in Lincoln, Nebraska, I planned and implemented the hardware rollout to support the transition from paper to electronic records. I also installed the new software onto the server created by my team. I completed training the computer “unfamiliar” staff in their day-to-day duties after the SaaS-provided training was unsuccessful. In an effort to help the transition to electronic records I became a staff member and assisted with day-to-day operations in the front office. I also took over multiple tasks working directly with patients alongside providers. This led to a stint at KU School of Medicine.

KU School of Medicine

While in medical school I remained available to modify templates and update the software packages as needed. In 2018, I returned to work full-time as a scribe for a physician more than six months behind in charting. Together we cleared his backlog and saved over $200k in potentially lost billing due to timely filing. I was also responsible for cleaning ICD codes in charts to more accurately reflect patient status allowing for better patient care and improved billing.
